Cultural Events

Our bilingual program covers much more than language skills. We strive to expose children to unique aspects of the cultural diversity of German-speaking countries and backgrounds. These include special cultural celebrations, traditions, clothing, food, games, dances and other things our parents and teachers come up with through the year.

The cultures of Germany, Austria, Switzerland as well as the background of the many Mennonite families in Manitoba can be drawn upon to enrich the learning experience for the children. They also offer an opportunity to share special celebrations with parents and extended families, even friends and neighbours.

Our activities include:

  • Laternenfest: the Festival of lanterns which comes with the Feast of St. Martin. See our Laternenfest page for details and even music!
  • St. Nikolaustag: Saint Nikolaus was a real man with a real history.
  • Kristkindlemarkt: the Germanic cultural groups in Winnipeg celebrate the Christmas season.
  • Fasching: The German version of 'Carnival'. We plan a real party this year. See our Fasching page for more information.
  • and more!
